Formed in Cincinnati in 1997, Bucket takes its name for drummer Rick"Bam" Powell's bucket-in-lieu-of a bass drum.  Their music is a mixture of genres made up of catchy, spirited anthems of American life experiences that are mostly optimistic, occasionally cynical (but without the angst)and always witty.
Performing originals written separately by each of the band's three talented songwriters, Bucket pleases crowds with their dedication to making the music, and no affections of it, the true fun.  The diversity of their individual tastes -from Rolfes' folk and bluegrass to Powell's R&B to Nyswonger's pop - meshes into a uniquely substantial sound that'll make your heart sing.
Cincinnati Enquirer music editor, Larry Nager's recent description of Rolfes extends to the band as well.  In the March 12 issue, Nager wrote,"Rolfes wins over audiences with his down-to-earth stage presence, solid song craft and infectious love of music."
All three members of Bucket have been playing music professionally for  a number of years.  Nyswonger and Powell played in the legendary Cincinnati band The Raisins, along with many other groups along the way - The Bluebirds and Stagger Lee for Powell and The Bears and Psychodots for Nyswonger, to name a few.  Nyswonger also currently plays bass with The Graveblankets.  Rolfes has performed as a solo act for twelve years.Bucket is his first band.
Nashville guitarist/mandolinist and longtime Rolfes friend Mark Gillespie often joins the trio for weekend performances and the fire he lights with the band augments their liveliness.  Gillespie, whose "day job" is playing for Nashville singer Claudia Church, met Rolfes some years ago when both were criss-crossing the country, performing music.
The members  of Bucket are currently planning to record a group CD. In January, Rolfes released a CD of his material, titled Further Down the Line, with Powell, Nyswonger and Gillespie serving as the band.  Whether they're performing their regular gigs at Stanley's Pub, R.P.McMurphy's and the Southgate House, or at the upcoming 1999 Pepsi Jammin' On Main Concert in downtown Cincinnati, Bucket is one Cincinnati act that should not be  missed.
